The Buffalo Bills won their first preseason game of the season, with a comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, 27-24.

While there were some things to dislike about the game, mainly the play of backup quarterback Case Keenum, the biggest thing fans and media took away from the win was the play from rookies.

Wide receiver Khalil Shakir, cornerbacks Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford, punter Matt Araiza and linebacker Baylon Spector were all very impressive in the win; especially Shakir, who played against Colts starters.

The Bills have to cut down the roster to 85 players by Tuesday, August 16th and the team wasted no time, as they have released four players on Sunday.

The most notable name is cornerback Olajiah Griffin, who spent all of last season on the Bills practice squad, after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

Rookie undrafted free agent tight end Jalen Wydermyer was also released.

The Bills will have to be down to 80 players by August 23rd, with the big cut down deadline coming on August 30th, when the team must be down to 53 players on the active roster. A few of those players who are waived in that round of cuts will be brought back on the practice squad, but it remains to be seen who that is.

The Bills next play the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium this upcoming Saturday at 1 pm. It will be the team's second of three preseason games, with the last one being played on Friday, August 26th at the Carolina Panthers.
