The heartbreak was real for De'Laney, as it turns out the guy she was seeing wasn't what he seemed to be:

We had dealings with each other, and he was kinda living a whole 'nother life, and it kinda...it came to light.

So naturally, she turned the pain from that heartbreak into "Pain":

I called my producer...I told him what happened, I said "I need a hot beat," he said "Okay, what you gonna write about?" I said "I don't know, I'ma just write." I start writing, and in just 20 minutes, it just...it became a song.
