Once again this week there are a variety of different topics that we could discuss here on “Know Thyself Community Wednesday”, as you know today is Halloween and have you ever just taken out the time to think about what it is you’re celebrating when you celebrate Halloween? I mean what are you binding yourself, your children, and your family to when you celebrate Halloween. Sometimes we do things because everyone else does them without thinking for ourselves and researching the origin of what it is that we are doing and why we are doing it; when everyone follows each other—we can term that as the sheep theory, does this sound like you?

What are some of the things that are happening in our own community right here in Buffalo? Last week a lady phoned in and wanted to talk about the men of all ages that just hang out on the corner at all times of the day and night. I remember a young man calling in saying that the government is not doing anything for them so they have to do what they got to do—which was one of the most ridiculous comments of the day.
I ran across a very interesting article on the internet that read: Why Are Blacks Silent on Obama’s Failures? For all of President Obama’s victories, there also have been failures, like a high poverty rate and the prison population among African Americans. New York Times contributor Fredrick C. Harris wonders why more black intellectuals, who no doubt recognize these trends, aren’t more critical of the president, like Cornel West is, for example. Have black elites, intellectuals, civil rights leaders, politicians and clergy members been silent to these facts, maybe feeling like this is the price to pay for pride and victory of having an African-American family in the White House.
So today, once again like last week, the choice is yours—you pick the topic and we will have a discussion about it on “Know Thyself Community Wednesday” and feel free to leave your comments below.
