Health code inspectors in Wyoming County were busy last month checking to make sure each restaurant and other non-food spots that prepare food, like schools and jails, meet certain safety standards. Many restaurants passed with flying colors.

There is also a long list of those who did not pass. Health code inspectors in Wyoming County will give restaurants violations for things like "Improper use and storage of clean, sanitized equipment and utensils," and "Food not protected during storage, preparation, display, transportation and service, from potential sources of contamination (e.g., food uncovered, mislabeled, stored on floor, missing or inadequate sneeze guards, food containers double stacked)."

Those violations are considered non-critical. Restaurants can get critical violations, such as "Toxic chemicals are improperly labeled, stored or used so that contamination of food can occur."
