The last 18 months has been extremely difficult on local businesses, especially local restaurants and bars. Even now, we're seeing the long-lasting effects of the pandemic and business owners are trying to manage through uncertain times.

That's why when something like this happens, it's even worse for a business and its staff.

According to WIVB, Di Camillo Bakery on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls Blvd. is closing its store until further notice for "safety of employees."

This after an armed robbery took place at Di Camillo on Saturday afternoon and the decision to stay closed was in the best interest of its employees.

Matthew Di Camillo says that criminal incidents have been happening more regularly over the last few years around the area where the bakery is.

This breaks my heart. Do Camillo Bakery on Pine Avenue was first opened in the mid-80s and you sometimes see a business open up and then after a great amount of time has gone by, the area the business is in worsens in terms of criminal activity.

There's no timetable on when the bakery will reopen, but I'm hopeful that Di Camillo can reopen safely sooner rather than later. The bakery is one of the best in Western New York and is run by fabulous people.
