If you ever hear someone say ‘there’s nothing to do in Buffalo’ they’re obviously someone who doesn't appreciate the smaller local places that this city has to offer; usually there’s a ‘hot spot’ people go for awhile until the trend fades out, or your sick of the same atmosphere time and time again. Many people forget that our city is full of a broad range of restaurants, lounges, and bars to check out outside of what they’re used to. Here’s a list of 5 of my favorite places to stop by in Buffalo; all exceptional in their own way with something fun and different to offer.

Gabriel’s Gate
145 Allen St.
Buffalo, NY 14201
(716) 886-0602
Gabriel’s Gate is the perfect casual place to grab a drink and enjoy some of the best chicken wings in Buffalo. Not only are their wings raved about, but the fish fry’s are delicious, and truth be told they have some of the best ribs I’ve ever had. Overall the bar has a warm wooden feel, and yes…you can still watch the game on the TV’s at the bar. Tucked away on Allen St., Gabriel’s is the perfect place to stop in before you head out for the night, or if you’re just looking to relax and have some good food!

If you’re a fan of smaller lounges, candle lighting, and live music Shadow Lounge will be right up your alley. Attracting a sophisticated crowd, Shadow offers a specialty martini list and a menu that has a little bit of everything. Musicians are featured on the weekends supplying a livelier atmosphere starting at 8pm on Thursday and 10pm Friday and Saturday. It’s the perfect place for a nice date or somewhere to grab a drink after work. To view the entire menu and featured artists visit…

Cozumel Grill and Tequila Bar
153 Elmwood Avenue
Buffalo, NY 14201
(716) 884-3866

At some point or another…summer will come…and this is the perfect place for when this Buffalo weather quits. With a huge outdoor patio and indoor bar, this Mexican themed restaurant/bar has great food and drinks to match. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun and they've also added Open Mic nights and live DJ’s are in the lineup. But don’t wait till summer to stop in, one of the most celebrated Mexican holidays is coming up and this would definitely be the spot to spend your Cinco De Mayo!

Scarlet
26 Virginia Place
Buffalo NY 14202
(716)-884-2630

Scarlet is definitely one of my favorite Allentown bar and restaurants; It’s hidden away on Virginia Place right across the street from Mother’s which is why I think is often looked over. It’s an elegant dim lit bar with TV’s, and there’s even a separate upstairs dining area if you want a more intimate setting. It draws a classy crowd, the music is decent, and the food is amazing. Every Tuesday they have appetizer and martini ‘pitcher’ specials if you’re looking for a nice night out during the week, and as it picks up on the weekends the atmosphere is ideal for a happy hour or a night out.

Located right across the street from Scarlet, Fat Bob’s offers a totally different atmosphere, style, and menu. Everything is created from scratch right down to the bleu cheese which gives it’s a home-style flavor you can’t find just anywhere. They also offer a very extensive and unique beer list if your into trying something new. With a separate dining and bar area Fat Bob’s is perfect for a nice relaxing dinner or an energetic bar scene.
