Volunteer’s Are Needed for the IRS’ VITA Program
Free Training is available to become Certified in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Every year more than 1 Million residents of the United States receive free tax preparation services due to the help of a cadre of volunteers who are certified by the IRS to help.
Created by Congress in 1969, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, consists of a network of more than 55,000 volunteers who are trained and certified by the IRS to be able to assist individuals and families with preparing the Federal (and sometimes State) Income Tax Returns. Being that Tax Returns are among the most complicated documents someone needs to complete, this program represents a needed lifeline to so many Americans who need help.

As someone who has volunteered over the years I can personally tell you that you don’t need any previous experience or special skills in tax preparation to be able to help. In the training, you will learn everything that you need to know, from how to understand and prepare taxes, to various aspects of Federal Tax Law.
The VITA Program is seeking additional volunteers for the 2021 Tax Season and the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers is sponsoring two (2) free information sessions that can help you get started on the journey to become Certified as a VITA Volunteer.
The sessions are free and will be presented online on Saturday, September 19th at 11am and Wednesday, September 23rd at 10a.
