New York State May Hit Weaponization Fund Recipients With Hefty Tax Bill
It seems the relationship that people of difficult political affiliations have with each other has slowly been deteriorating over the last few years. The political divide between Independents, Republicans, Democrats, and more has been growing for a while, and it doesn't seem like it's going to close anytime soon. You can see it in just about every state in the nation, including right here in the Empire State.
While New York is decidedly a blue state, you can see some stark lines being drawn among different political factions.
When you take a look at the most recent voter enrollment data available from the New York State Board of Elections, there are nearly 6.5 million registered Democrats, with less than 3 million registered Republicans. That divide is even starker when you add in the number of independent voters, which is nearly 3.5 million.

That divide may widen further if a bill introduced in the New York State Legislature becomes law later this year.
Potential Anti-Weaponization Fund Tax Would Require 100% State Penalty
The creation of the federal Anti-Weaponization Fund has made big news from sea to shining sea over the last few days.
According to the US Department of Justice, a $1.776 billion government compensation fund is being made available to provide formal apologies and monetary relief to people who suffered from lawfare and the weaponization of the government against them.
This fund, which many are calling an illegal slush fund that would allow people who attacked the US Capitol on January 6th to be paid with taxpayer funds, is causing an uproar in many political circles and on both sides of the political aisle.
The idea of using taxpayer funds to compensate people who attacked democracy is so bothersome that one New York State Assembly member is looking to do something about it.
In a post on social media, State Assemblymember Alex Bores, from New York's 73rd district, is proposing a 100% tax on any New Yorker who receives a payment from the Anti-Weaponization Fund.
With nearly 100 New Yorkers who had been convicted, and later pardoned, of attacking the US Capitol in 2021, there may be a few people who are looking to get money from this fund.
Bores isn't alone in this desire; officials from Wisconsin and California have said they are following suit as well.
