The Great Instagram Purge!

If you woke up this week with a few less followers than you went to sleep with the night before it's because Instagram began cracking down on the influx of fake accounts flooding the photo-sharing social media platform. They’re deleting what's called spambots left and right, in a move many are now calling the “Instagram Purge” or “Instagram Rapture,” yes it was THAT serious to some! The vast majority of Instgram users weren't greatly impacted by the "Purge" but those who chose to embark in the trend of buying followers and some of your celebrity faves were hit the hardest.

Ironically the official Instagram handle itself lost the most followers. The New York Times reports that @instagram lost a total of 18.9 million followers. But still, Justin Bieber lost 3.5 million, Ariana Grande lost 1.5 million, Kim Kardashian lost 1.3 million, Rihanna lost 1.2 million and Selena Gomez lost 1.1 million. Who woulda knew it was that many spam accounts! Who makes these things? lol
