Largest Corvette Show in The Northeast is Back at The Beach

Some Corvette lovers may be green with envy, while others will be in awe as over 500 Vettes invade the Beach. Yes, the family-friendly event "Vettes at the Beach" is back, and they're expecting more Corvettes than ever before.

The Syracuse Corvette Club’s 28th annual Vettes at the Beach will take place on Sunday, July 25th, from 9AM to 4PM in Sylvan Beach on the Village Green and on The Water (Sunset Park).

This popular “rain or shine” event is one of the largest single-day premier Corvette shows in the Northeast. You'll see as many as 500 Corvettes onsite, and hundreds of Corvette enthusiasts will travel to Sylan Beach from all over the United States and Canada to participate.

Many fans forget that “Vettes At the Beach” is a charity event. The Syracuse Corvette Club has raised over $300,000 donated back into the local community to help numerous organizations, including The Food Bank of Central New York, Honor Flight Syracuse, Sunshine horses, and many more.

There will also be live music, 50/50 raffles, basket raffles, dash plaques for the first 150 pre-registered Corvettes.

New this year, the Sylvan Verona Beach Resort Association has helped add over 50 local vendors and crafters that you'll find throughout Sunset Park and both sides of the Village Green and Eddie’s Restaurant.

Bike lovers rejoice. Bikes at the Beach is back with an all-new lineup of free live music at the Sylvan Beach Bandstand. Hear the roar of motorcycle engines every Tuesday night from June 15, 2021, through September 7, 2021. Sylvan Beach will come alive with lots of motorcycle action on Main Street, with free parking for bikes stretching from 15th Avenue down to the bridge. Read more here.

Northern Lights In Old Forge

It's not really common to see northern lights in Central New York, but photographer Kurt Gardner captured the beautiful conformation of them near Old Forge. We're usually too far south of the North Pole, but sometimes we get lucky.

Auroras are caused by the Sun. The Sun is not only hot and bright, but it's also full of energy and small particles that fall toward Earth. NASA says the protective magnetic field around Earth shields us from most of the energy and particles, and we don't even notice them.

The amount of energy the Sun sends, depends on the streaming solar wind and solar storms. During one kind of solar storm called a coronal mass ejection, the Sun expels a huge bubble of electrified gas that can travel through space at high speeds.

When a solar storm comes toward us, some of the energy and small particles can travel down the magnetic field lines at the north and south poles into Earth's atmosphere. There, the particles interact with gases in our atmosphere resulting in beautiful displays of light in the sky. Oxygen gives off green and red light. Nitrogen glows blue and purple. [NASA]

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
