Wrong Turn At Rainbow Bridge In Niagara Falls Lands Driver In Jail
Another wrong turn at a border crossing has landed another driver in jail. Many drivers have made wrong turns at the confusing Peace Bridge roundabout entrance at Porter Avenue, but this incident happened at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Rainbow Bridge Port of Entry seized a stolen vehicle on Monday, June 5, 2023. CBP officers encountered a 2022 Honda HRV passenger vehicle, which was turned away by the Canada Border Services Agency. The vehicle was driven by a 24-year-old female United States citizen. She made a wrong turn and was denied entry into Canada. That's when CBP officers intercepted her and the vehicle. She was taken to a secondary inspection area for further examination.
Unfortunately for the driver, her wrong turn turned into a costly mistake. During the secondary examination, CBP discovered that the vehicle identification number had been reported as stolen from the Buffalo Airport. Officers conducted a record check on the driver and found that she had an active warrant in Broome County for Larceny – Grand Larceny 3. The estimated value of the vehicle is $29,000. After being processed by border agents, the driver and the vehicle were turned over to New York State Police.
Acting Area Port Director Dawn Caltagirone said,
Our close relationships with other law enforcement agencies plays a key role in our ability to help prevent criminal activity at the border. Our officers do a tremendous job to help keep our communities safe.
