In Western New York, the beginning of September denotes the start of school for most of the area's communities. Those first few days are often filled with great energy and excitement as kids get back to their classrooms and reconnect with their friends.

While the first days of school can sometimes be rough, they generally end on the positive side as the whole region gets used to being back in school.

However, the third day of school for one group of students went from good to bad real quick after an act of violence rocked a school and had members of the Buffalo community asking why and leaders from all levels asking what we could do to stop it.

On Monday, September 9, 2024, Police and other first responders were called to McKinley High School in Buffalo's Park Meadow neighborhood in response to a big fight in the school. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found that a 15-year-old boy had been stabbed three times. The teen had stab wounds on his arm, back, and neck.

According to WIVB-TV, the student was rushed to Oishei Children’s Hospital and is in serious condition. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Two other students were found in the school and deemed to be responsible for the stabbing; they were taken into custody by Buffalo Police officers. The incident was captured on the school's security system and is being used by investigators to get to the bottom of what happened.

Reporting from The Buffalo News indicates that this was not a random act of violence in the school, and the student who was stabbed was likely targeted by his attackers. Investigators also believe they recovered the knife used in the attack as well.

It seems that the people involved in this attack were involved in another attack that happened in downtown Buffalo's Fountain Plaza in July of this year.
