Buffalo families, this is definitely one to add to the calendar.

Shea’s Performing Arts Center is opening its doors once again for another community-centered experience through its Free Film Series, and this time they’re bringing the world of Minecraft to the big screen.

On Sunday, May 17, the community is invited to Shea’s Buffalo Theatre for a free showing of A Minecraft Movie at 1 PM, with doors opening at Noon. And if you’ve ever been to a Shea’s event before, then you already know this is more than just watching a movie, it’s about bringing families and the community together for an experience.

Guests are encouraged to pull up early for pre-film activities, trivia, and interactive fun before the movie starts. There will also be a free book table featuring new and gently used books for attendees to take home, which is always a beautiful touch for families and young people. Concessions will also be available throughout the afternoon.

The film itself brings one of the world’s most popular games to life. A Minecraft Movie stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. The story follows four individuals who suddenly find themselves transported into the Overworld, a creative and imaginative cube-shaped universe where survival depends on teamwork, creativity, and courage.

As they navigate this unfamiliar world, the group learns lessons about believing in themselves, embracing creativity, and finding strength in the very things that make them unique. It’s the kind of storyline that feels fun for kids while still carrying messages adults can appreciate too.

What makes events like this important is accessibility. Not every family can afford expensive outings every weekend, especially as costs continue to rise. Opportunities like Shea’s Free Film Series create moments where families can connect, kids can experience the arts and entertainment, and the community can simply enjoy time together without the financial pressure.

And honestly, there’s just something special about seeing families fill historic spaces like Shea’s with laughter, excitement, and energy.

Tickets are free, but seating is limited, so families are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance through Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

So family, this is another Town Rundown event you don't want to miss!
