McDermott Gives Heartbreaking Quote About Sunday’s Bills Loss [TWEET]
It's been 36 hours since the Buffalo Bills lost one of the most heartbreaking games, not just in Buffalo sports history, but in NFL history as well.
The Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 42-36 in what was a back-and-forth ending, which saw three lead changes and 25 points scored in the final 1:54 of regulation.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen had an all-time game, completing 27 of 37 passes for 329 yards and 4 touchdowns, with another 68 yards rushing and zero turnovers. Allen's two-game playoff run is the best statistical two-game performance by a quarterback in NFL playoff history.
Bills fans and the national media cannot get over the Bills defense and coaching decisions, which ultimately lost them the game. Allen and the offense deserved to win.
The Bills took the lead with 1:54 left on a 4th and 13 touchdown pass from Allen to Gabriel Davis. The 27-yard touchdown pass put the Bills up 27-26, then Allen completed a crazy pass to Stefon Diggs for the 2-point conversion.
The Chiefs scored a touchdown on just three plays the next drive, capped off by a 64-yard Tyreek Hill touchdown pass.
But Allen answered right back with a drive that ended with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Davis with 13 seconds left to put the Bills ahead 36-33.
Then the sequence that Bills fans will be angry about for years to come. The Bills inexplicably played far back and allowed the Chiefs two easy 20+ yard completions to set them up for the game-typing field goal. Kansas City had all three timeouts left.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott talked to the Buffalo media on Tuesday morning and outside of late Sunday night after the game, it was the most dejected the media has ever heard McDermott.
McDermott gave a crushing quote, too. He said the end of the game has been played over a million times in his head, and his stomach. He said he will watch it in his mind and gut for years to come...
The Bills would have hosted the AFC Championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals, if they had just not played so far off on the Chiefs on those last two offensive plays of regulation. That defensive strategy is unforgivable.
The Bills may get back and win a Super Bowl, but the sad part about sports, is that we may never do so, and who knows, maybe that was the best overall team surrounding Josh Allen.
