In a recently posted YouTube video, Walmart's CEO Doug McMillon shared plans for the massive retail brand when it comes to embracing digital technologies. During the presentation, Megan Crozier, who leads the merchandising team for Sam's Club spoke about Sam's Club's plans to stop checking customers' receipts when they exit the store. Instead, the company will use A.I. to scan the items in customers' carts. She said that the company is proud of the digital relationship it has with its members as she touted the company's app.

According to Sam's Club's website, the Scan and Go feature is designed to save members time,

Once at the club, open the Sam’s Club app and click the Scan & Go™ icon at the bottom To shop, scan the barcode of each item as you go. When you're ready, slide the bar to pay in the app. Skip the checkout lines and head to the door with your digital receipt.

Crozier said Scan and Go reached a record level of usage in the fourth quarter of 2023. The video below gives a demonstration of how Sam's Club plans to use A.I. to scan customers' items rather than check their paper receipts. Crozier said, "Eliminating even the few seconds it takes to scan a receipt at the exit door is well worth it."

While the retail giant says using A.I. is a benefit to customers, some people may be weary about what data and/or images Sam's Club is collecting when it scans customers.
