PARENTS OF BUFFALO PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS CALL FOR REVIEW OF SEXUALLY INVASIVE PHYSICAL EXAMS IN SCHOOLS. PARENTS CONCERNED ABOUT LACK OF INFORMED CONSENT AND SEEK ASSURANCES THAT CHILDREN ARE NOT BEING USED IN HUMAN SUBJECT RESEARCH TRIALS.
April 29, 2014, Buffalo, NY---Buffalo Public School Parents will be holding a press conference, today, April 29th at 11:00am at the CAO Masten Resource Center located at 1423 Fillmore Avenue in Buffalo to call for a review of school districts’ policy allowing sexually invasive exams in the schools and challenging whether or not the school district and Kaleida Health, who operate school based health clinics, are following NYS Department of Health regulations. So called Tanner Stages exams and their use at clinics within the Buffalo Public Schools are at issue.
School district parents Edie Harris and Annette Jordan, and their families, will talk about the experiences of their high school and middle school children. Recalling the Tuskegee Syphilis experiments back in the 1930’s, Ms. Harris and Ms. Jordan are also concerned about whether or not their children---and other children within the Buffalo Public Schools---unknowingly have been, or are being, used in any type of human subject research project/
Parents will call for the Buffalo School Superintendent and Board President to publicly assure parents that there are no human subject research projects currently taking place within the Buffalo Public Schools and that the policies involving Tanner Stages exams will be reviewed.
