Puffy aka P. Diddy aka Diddy aka Sean Combs is planning to launch Revolt, a music-themed cable network on Dec. 12, reports Broadcasting & Cable. According to sources with knowledge of the project, Revolt is "a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One described it as the old days of MTV, but for more of the African American audience." Former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon is involved with Revolt. Prior to Revolt, Schuon’s founded Vivendi/Universal’s, IMF, (International Music Feed), a 24 hour music network. IMF was discontinued when it was acquired by Ovation in 2008.

This means the channel will be like BET of the 90's minus all the stupid reality TV shows. Comcast is likely to be distributing Revolt as part of its commitment to the FCC to help launch minority owned networks they committed themselves to launching 10 "independent channels" over the next few years. Eight of those channels will be owned by Hispanics or African Americans. It's already a good year for cable networks targeting blacks: Bounce TV launched last September and two others -- Kin TV (co-founded by Charles Barkley) and Soul of the South -- will launch this spring. While this is a good business move do we really need more music videos for African Americans or Bad Boy TV ? Just so i will not to be a hater i'll close with a quote from Diddy "Can't Stop Won't Stop".
