According to a post on their Twitter account, National grid will be offering customers free dry ice from Noon until 4 pm today. You will need to bring your own carrier. This could be a cooler or a small shopping bag.
If you need the dry ice, there are four different locations that you can stop by to collect it today.
JFK Community Center 114 Hickory Street, in Buffalo
City of Batavia Fire Department 18 Evans Street, Batavia
The Murphy Training Center 665 Brigham Road, in Dunkirk
The Niagara Falls Fire Station No. 8 320 Hyde Park Blvd, Niagara Falls
If you never used dry ice before, here is how you should use it to keep your food at the proper temperature. You will need to pack your cooler differently, depending on whether you need to keep perishable food products frozen or cold. if you don't need to keep the food frozen, you should be a layer between the food and dry ice. Something like a towel or cardboard would be a good buffer.
If the items are frozen food, you can place them directly on the ice.
The dry ice should be on the bottom of the container and then your food layered on top.
