32 People Were Arrested In Niagara County This Week

Police in Niagara County spent the past week arresting people accused of committing crimes. Niagara County is made up of quite a few cities, towns, and villages including the City of Lockport, the City of North Tonawanda, the City of Niagara Falls, the Town of Lewiston, the Town of Lockport, the Town of Wheatfield, and the Village of Youngstown. The sheriff is an elected position, and each sheriff serves for four years.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office was established on March 11, 1808. The first jail in Niagara County was built in Buffalo in 1810. After Niagara County separated from what is now known as Niagara County another jail was built in 1825. The current jail was built in 1961 and is located at 5526 Niagara Street Extension, Lockport, NY 14095.

There has been a hyper-focus on illegal immigrants who commit crimes, but make no mistake, many Americans do too. There are many factors that influence people choosing a life of crime - drugs, poverty, a lack of job opportunities, greed, family dynamics, etc. But let's be honest, some people are just evil. And we know that some people who have access to resources, money, opportunities, and education still choose to commit crimes. There are lots of people who commit "white collar" crimes out of pure greed. There are also violent extremists crimes that occur,

"Mass shootings in the United States accounted for most extremism-related fatalities last year in the country with over 80% of those murders committed by white supremacists, data released by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) showed on Thursday. The advocacy group labeled 25 murders in 2022 as 'extremist-related,' with 18 of those 'committed in whole or part for ideological motives.'"

When it comes to crime, we should be focused on all crimes and how we can stop criminal activity, not just the crimes of one group. All crimes matter! Arrests in Niagara County are up this week by 11. Last week 21 People were arrested, while this week 32 were arrested.
