The inflation rate rose slightly in the United States. The annual inflation rate was 2.9% for the 12 months ending in December 2024. The previous rate was 2.7%, according to data published by the U.S. Labor Department on January 15, 2025. The next inflation update will be released on February 12.
Governor Kathy Hochul, New York's first woman governor, has doubled down on her proposal to send inflation rebates to New York families.

During a technical briefing on the Governor's 2025 FY Budget, her Budget Director, Blake Washington, spoke about her plan to return $3 billion to New Yorkers. Her budget also includes a $1 billion middle-class tax cut. Approximately 8.6 million New Yorkers will receive the $3 billion in refund monies. Single taxpayers who make $150,000 or less yearly will receive checks for $300 and families making up to $300,000 annually will get $500. New Yorkers will receive their inflation rebates directly.
