New York Fights Back After Feds ‘Draw First Blood’
New York State plans to fight back against federal government attacks on its residents. While Trump has previously screamed about states' rights to anyone that would listen, the federal government, now under his control, is attacking states he considers rogue. New York happens to be one of those states.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Trump's approval rating is neck-and-neck with his disapproval rating, meaning as many people are dissatisfied with the job he's doing as are satisfied. At this point, it's Trump versus everybody. He has had various battles against private citizens, politicians, judges, governors, federal employees, world leaders, and just about anyone who he believes is standing in his way. Governor Kathy Hochul, New York's first elected woman governor, is also one of those people.
Gov. Hochul and Attorney General Leticia James have been fighting for New Yorkers. On NPR’s Morning Edition, Gov. Hochul issued a warning to Trump and the federal government,
“We offered up an olive branch, [we said] 'We'll work with you on infrastructure. Let's redo Penn Station. Those areas were common ground. But once you draw first blood on us, we're coming back hard. And I will be leading the resistance on policies like these where you're hurting New Yorkers directly. This is our decision, not yours."

In addition to fighting Trump on congestion pricing, Attorney General James has been leading the charge against Trump's executive orders. She co-led a coalition of 22 other state attorneys general in an ongoing lawsuit against Trump's freeze on federal funding, which is normally decided by Congress. Attorney General James said,
“The Trump administration’s reckless and illegal freeze on federal funding jeopardizes critical resources that help keep communities throughout New York and the nation safe."
Attorney General James is also urging the Social Security Administration not to close its offices in New York due to cuts that Trump and Elon Musk are making. Trump plans to close a hearing office in White Plains and reduce services at the Poughkeepsie field office. She says these moves will harm New Yorkers.
New York residents are bound to be negatively affected by many cuts that the Trump administration is making.
