Millions of New Yorkers will not receive their Social Security payments this month. The future of social security is also questionable. For years, Republican politicians have had Social Security in their crosshairs.

Elon Musk recently said that Social Security is the biggest Ponzi Scheme. It also sounds like he is upset that Americans are living longer and not dying early to balance out SSI.

He has also said that millions of dead people are being paid social security benefits, which has been debunked by facts. It doesn't surprise me that a billionaire doesn't care about Social Security, but millions of New Yorkers rely on their SSI benefits to live. According to Wikipedia,

"Social Security is funded primarily through payroll taxes called the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) or Self Employed Contributions Act (SECA). Wage and salary earnings from covered employment, up to an amount determined by law (see tax rate table), are subject to the Social Security payroll tax."

It may be confusing for a foreigner, such as Musk, but New Yorkers pay into Social Security and expect to receive their money back. As of 2024, the Social Security tax rate is 12.4% up to $168,600. Bernie Sanders recently introduced the Social Security Expansion Act, which would have expanded benefits by $2,400 annually, but it was blocked by Senate Republicans.

Millions of New Yorkers are not receiving Social Security checks in March, but it has nothing to do with Republicans and Musk's attempts to gut the program. In this case, it is simply a technicality. According to Money.com, it is because of the way Social Security issues its payments. SSI checks are usually cut on the first of each month unless the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday. If that happens, the checks go out on the previous business day, which, in this case, was February 28, 2025. Due to timing, there will be no Social Security checks sent out in March 2025.

Hopefully, New Yorkers and Americans will stand up and fight for their entitlement and not allow it to be cut to benefit corporations and billionaires!
