Once again the people of the great state of New York are dealing with something that we wish we didn't have to. Often we're ranked as the number one state in many categories, but there is one category that New York isn't number one in and we're actually pretty happy about that, even though we're still in the top ten.

Don't get me wrong, being number one is great. We have amazing things in the Empire State to be proud of, like top notch football and baseball teams, along with all sorts of world wonders like Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty. While all these things make a great list, there is one list that New York is near the top of that no state wants to be on.

New Yorkers Pay More In Taxes 44 Other State

If you have been in New York for any amount of time, then you know that some of the highest taxes in the country. It's often hard to truly quantify it, but when you compare what we pay to what happens in other states, you'll be able to see exactly how high out taxes are.

Things in New York have gotten better, but that doesn't mean it's good. WalletHub did a survey of the real tax rates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia and pulled data from the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to rank each state's taxes. WalletHub didn't just look at property taxes, they looked at state and local income tax, property taxes, vehicle use taxes, sales taxes, and other common state-level taxes to rank each state accurately.

After compiling all the data, New York came out with the six-highest taxes in the country, ranking 46 out of 51.

New York Taxes Are Super High

While the Empire State has moved down from 50th to 46th, we are still higher than 45 other states. While we're happy to beat states like Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Illinois, and New Jersey, this isn't all that great of a win.

You can check out the entire survey for yourself, but the numbers are grim for New York when you really look at them. There has been some moves in the State Legislature to reduce taxes, but something has to change soon because the average New Yorker is running out of money.
