New York families will be getting automatic checks soon, but when will they come? At this point, every little bit helps. The economy has been headed south for months now. We went from a great place in January to higher prices, job losses, and a rocky stock market. There have been significant job cuts and hiring freezes recently. John Deere, which manufactures farm equipment, just announced hundreds of layoffs. The company has been facing declining sales and the effects of tariffs, according to Newsweek.

Many people claim the "trickle down" effect works when it comes to passing on wealth from billionaires to the working class. That's questionable, at best. But it clearly works when it comes to passing on the hardships from tariffs and immigration policies that target the agriculture workforce. A spokesperson for John Deere said,

"The struggling ag economy continues to impact orders for John Deere equipment. This is a challenging time for many farmers, growers and producers, and directly impacts our business in the near term."

The company is firing 238 workers across three factories. Are we great yet?

Automatic Checks Coming To New Yorkers

Thankfully, New York State is giving $3 billion back to taxpayers. Governor Kathy Hochul and the Democrat-led New York State Legislature passed the 2025-26 Fiscal Year Budget, which includes funds for inflation rebate checks. Every little bit helps right about now!

"The 2025–2026 New York State budget provides for the state’s first-ever inflation refund checks. These one-time payments provide relief to New Yorkers who have paid increased sales taxes due to inflation. If you qualify for a payment, you do not need to do anything; we will automatically send you a check."

Are You Eligible To Receive An Inflation Rebate Check?

The checks will be going out in mid-October to those who are eligible. More than 8 million New Yorkers will get checks this fall. But keep in mind, they will not all go out at the same time. Because of the large volume of money being sent to New Yorkers, the checks won't all be sent at once.

You do not need to do anything to receive your check. However, in order to be eligible for a check, you must meet certain criteria.

- You must have filed Form IT-201, a New York State Resident Income Tax Return, in 2023.
- You must not have been claimed as a dependent by another NY taxpayer.
- You must fall into the income categories below
