Every Week I look to feature and interview a young mover and shaker who embodies the “Go Getta Spirit” and is doing great things for the people and themselves in the Western New York and Southern Ontario community. Meet Dr. Keli-Koran Luchey!
Keli-Koran Luchey earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education (with a concentration in School Counseling); a M.Ed. in College Counseling and Student Personnel Work, a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A in Women’s Studies all from the University at Buffalo. She also holds a Masters degree in Education Administration from Canisius College.
Dr. Luchey is a certified New York State School Counselor and has been employed for over ten years as a High School Counselor. She has served as an Educational Consultant for the Mount Olive Development Corporation, Preventionfocus, and the Office for University Preparatory Programs at the University at Buffalo. She was formerly employed as a Senior Admissions Advisor and Assistant Admissions Coordinator for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Buffalo. In addition to her work in Admissions, she also taught Undergraduate Freshman Seminar courses at UB.
Prior to her position as a Senior Admissions Advisor, Dr. Luchey worked in various capacities for the Science and Technology Enrichment Program (STEP), the Liberty Partnership Program, the Upward Bound Program (all at UB) and the Buffalo Urban League.
She is the CEO/Founder of Lucid Pathways, LLC (www.lucidpathways.com) – an Educational Consulting and Life Coaching Firm and co-host of “Chatting 4 Purpose”, a local Radio Show on WUFO 1080 AM. She serves on the Board of Directors for the True Community Development Corporation, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (Buffalo Alumnae Chapter), the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE). She previously served as Vice President of the Niagara-Orleans Counseling Association (NOCA), is the former Historian of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. (Buffalo Chapter), and is a former member of the Prevention Focus Adult Advisory Board.
Dr. Luchey has received several awards for her contributions to the community including: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated (Beta Iota Chapter) Educator of the Year Award (1995), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Gamma Kappa Chapter) Appreciation Award (1998), Radio Channel WBLK Professional of the Month Award (September 1998), Who’s Who Among Teachers (2004-05; 2005-06; 2006-07), NY State Senator Antoine Thompson - “Educator Award” (Women’s History Month, March 2007), Mayor Byron Brown, City of Buffalo - “Education Award” ( 2007) , Uncrowned Queen (2008) by the Uncrown Crowned Queens Institute for Research and Education on Women, Incorporated and Young Miss Buffalo Scholarship and Enrichment Program (YMBP), Cornerstone Award of Distinction (2010); Athena KPMG Young Leader Nominee (2012).
For over twenty years, Dr. Luchey has enriched the lives of children and adults. She considers it an honor and privilege to work with people. It is her goal to instill in every person that she meets the belief that they are “full of promise” rather than “at-risk”.
