While most people are looking forward to summer for all of the fun and the sun, those in the New York State political scene are looking forward to the Primary Elections, earning a major political party nomination. From Buffalo to New York City and everywhere in between, dozens of men and women have been taking all sorts of steps to get out the vote.

Most primary elections that happen in a non-presidential year have pretty low turnout, but considering how important the direction of our cities, towns, and villages is, it's essential that people participate in the electoral process.

Once all the primary election day results have been finalized, we'll know who has the Republican and Democratic nominations all over Western New York's municipalities. Primary Election Day 2025 was Tuesday, June 24th, and the Empire State polls were open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. During the 15 hours that people could vote, plus the nine days available for early voting, thousands of votes were cast, with thousands more that need to be counted once provisional and absentee ballots are accounted for.

What Offices Were Being Elected This Year?

You can find a full list of the offices to be filled this year on the Board of Elections website, but below are the key races we're watching in Buffalo and Western New York:

  • Democratic Nomination For Mayor of Buffalo
  • Republican Nomination For Hamburg Town Supervisor
  • Republican Nomination For Amherst Town Supervisor
  • Republican Nomination For Orchard Park Town Supervisor

The results in local elections are highly dependent on the turnout of local voters. This isn't usually a problem when the Presidency is up for election, but it's local elections that have the biggest impact on people's day-to-day lives. These local elections are critical in the direction of our towns, cities, counties, and state because they directly impact us.

We, in America, do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.
Thomas Jefferson, Third President Of The United States

All Results Are Unofficial Until The Final Canvas

You can view the complete vote totals on the Board of Elections Website here.

All of the results we've received so far are considered unofficial. According to New York State Election Law, the final results aren't released until the votes are fully canvassed and certified.

According to the New York State Board of Elections, the final canvass is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

Until then, you can view the full unofficial voting results in Erie County here, in Niagara County here, and New York Statewide here.
