Over the next few months, high school seniors across New York State will be making their final decisions on where they’d like to attend college. Besides keeping their fingers crossed that they’ll get into their dream school and paying their prospective future campuses a visit, there’s one thing every future college student needs to do first-...

Apply.

On top of the thousands of dollars the typical college student will need to shell out for their tuition, housing, and meal plans over the years (and pay back later in the form of those oh-so-great student loans), the application fees that students have to pay can quickly add up, depending on how many schools they’re submitting to.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the average application fee in the United States was around $45, with some schools charging up to $100 just to apply to their institution.

Luckily, for those interested in attending one of the many state-run schools here in New York, there’s a unique opportunity to catch a break on those application fees– but interested students need to hurry.

Apply To SUNY Colleges For Free This Week

Through November 3rd, potential college students can apply to up to five of SUNY’s 64 schools without having to pay an application fee. After that, there is a $50 non-refundable fee for each SUNY school they wish to apply to.

But here’s some more good news! Besides waiving their application fee this week, SUNY offers application fee waivers that apply to 60 percent of all high school seniors in New York State, such as students who attend a school with more than 500 students, have military connections, or come from a low-income household.
