Every year, cities, towns, villages, and counties all around the United States get huge chunks of money from the Federal Government. The national government collects a lot of money in taxes from residents, and then those taxes are redistributed to help improve public health, fight poverty, and generally help to support the general welfare of the nation.

In places like Buffalo, which is set to receive around $20 million from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, complete an Annual Actual Plan, which is submitted to federal officials to detail the priorities they have for the coming year and how they intend to spend any federal funds they receive.

Because most things aren't straightforward when it comes to the various kinds of public works projects that happen in neighborhoods, from time to time, city officials need to make a change to the action plan that was filed with federal officials, and that exact thing needs to happen in Buffalo.

The City of Buffalo officials are hosting a public meeting on Wednesday. May 13, 2026, to get input about some changes they want to make to the current action plan.

Over the last three years, the City of Buffalo has planned to spend more than $2 million in federal funds on housing demolitions and other neighborhood-related projects. Not all of those funds have been spent, and city officials want to reallocate some of that cash.

The public hearing is set for Wednesday, May 13th 2026, from 5:30 pm-7 pm at the Delavan-Grider Community Center, 877 E Delavan Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215. If you can't make the meeting or want to give additional comments on how the money should be spent, city officials will accept, consider, and review additional comments through June 13, 2026.
