Heat advisories have been posted for much of Western New York State as we get ready for a return to the hot weather on Thursday.

If you live in the City of Buffalo, you might wonder "Where can a family cool off and get away from the heat in Buffalo, New York"?

There is some good news as City of Buffalo officials are expanding hours at some the best places to beat the heat.

As we get air temps around 88 on Thursday, the heat index will be well in the 90's and that has prompted the City of Buffalo to change some things up.

Various splash pads around Buffalo will be open a little longer from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

In a Facebook post from the Buffalo Common Council, it was noted that: "With heat indexes expected to reach nearly 90 degrees this afternoon and tomorrow, the City of Buffalo is extending hours on splash pads. Stop by city splash pads from 10AM to 8PM or pools from 11AM to 7PM to beat the heat".

The hot weather has been on again-off again this week as some areas started the week with overnight low temperatures in the 40's! It sure felt like fall on Monday morning and with the start of the training camp for the Buffalo Bills, it was a sign of what it next as we think ahead to fall.

But for now, Thursday will be a solid return to the summer for all of the State.
