We are just a month away from the official start of summer, so what can we expect weather-wise across New York State?  Will it be hot and dry, cool and wet, or a mix of each?

Here is the latest summer weather prediction for New York State for 2026.

2026 Summer Weather Outlook For New York State

This year has been a cooler and wetter one for the most part across New York State, so will that be the same when it comes to the summer months across the Empire State?

The latest summer weather outlook from the Weather Channel is calling for a cooler summer across New York State due to a possible Super El Niño. This will bring much warmer weather to the Northwest, but in the Northeast, in places like New York State, that heat won't make it our way.

The Super El Niño is going to bring below-average temperatures along with extra rain during the summer of 2026.

What Is A Super El Niño?

A super El Niño is a rare event that happens once every 10 to 20 years in North America. It is when a very strong phase of an El Niño occurs. This is when the sea surface temperatures rise several degrees above average.

The last Super El Niño on record happened during the summer of 2015 and lasted into the early months of 2016.
