The brand new liquor law that, if passed in New York State could be a big game changer in 2024.

Restaurants and its patrons would benefit the most from the new law, especially during a hard time with massive inflation rates that many have seen at the register.

What would the new liquor law be?

The New York State Senate Senate proposed that a bar or restaurant would be able to purchase up to 12 bottles of liquor from local liquor stores EVERY WEEK.

Why is this important for a new New York State liquor law to be passed?

Right now, there are only 2 distributors of liquor in New York State. As you can imagine, they completely drive the price and there is little competition.

Empire State Restaurant & Tavern Association Executive Director Scott Wexler said  “Eight-to-$10,000 a year is what we think the typical tavern will save in these fees," he said. "Some smaller taverns who are only buying one case a week will save maybe close to the four to $5,000 a year. But but those are just fees that they're paying extra, having nothing to do with the cost of the product", according to Spectrum.

The new law would, in turn, let bar and restaurant owners to save money each week that could be used on other items for the establishment, or to even lower prices--something that we all would love to see happen.

At the end of 2023, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she would allow to the sale of alcohol on any day of the week, including Sundays in New York State.
