Well we're approaching the football season again, and there are any number of youth ready, willing, and amped about participating. However, there is new evidence within the past 3 or 4 years that substantiates the claim that playing football is strongly associated with concussion and brain damage...to the extent that there is now a specific name attributed to brain injury due to playing football-type sports, called CTE...an acronym for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

CTE is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes (and others) with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including symptomatic concussions as well as asymptomatic sub-concussive hits to the head.
