New York Families Face Housing Fears Amid Proposed Cuts
Many New Yorkers could find themselves homeless as Republicans revamp government housing assistance. Many supporters of the new administration claim that we are a so-called "Christian Nation," but they refuse to follow the teachings of the Bible. Proverbs 19:17 says, "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done." But lately, there has been an effort to take away all the lifelines for poor New Yorkers. There seems to be a war against poor people in an effort to help the rich get richer.
According to CNBC, "Taxpayers earning $1 million or more are expected to see a boost in after-tax income of about 3% under President Donald Trump’s 'big beautiful bill'.” There appears to be a reverse Robin Hood situation going on right now.

Do Trickle-Down Economics Work?
Here's to hoping billionaires will pass their hefty tax breaks on to working- and middle-class New Yorkers 🙄 If you can't read emoji, I am being very, very, very, sarcastic. Per The Balance,
"The International Monetary Fund (IMF) also rejects the trickle-down theory. In its report authored by five economists, it argues that 'increasing the income share of the poor and the middle class actually increases growth while a rising income share of the top 20% results in lower growth—that is, when the rich get richer, benefits do not trickle down.'”
I've seen many people who are working class or poor argue on behalf of taxbreaks for the rich claiming that it will eventually trickle down. United for a Fair Economy breaks down the historical statistics of tax breaks for the rich and how they don't support economic growth or jobs.
Personally, I would rather see my tax dollars help a single mom or an elderly person survive than help a wealthy person get wealthier.
Housing Woes Ahead For New Yorkers Who Rely On Assistance

The war on the poor continues. Now Republicans are coming for their housing. There are changes on the horizon for federal government assisted housing. HUD Secretary Scott Turner spoke on the Section 8 voucher program in June of 2025, saying,
“It’s broken and deviated from its original purpose, which is to temporarily help Americans in need. HUD assistance is not supposed to be permanent.”
Proposed changes include implementing a two year limit on HUD housing assistance for New Yorkers, per The LA Times.
Researchers from the Housing Solutions Lab at New York University’s Furman Center found that working families in New York could be hit hard. Key word is WORKING. I see so many people in the comments say that government assistace beneficiaries "need to get a job." The problem is, many have jobs, but those trickle down economics aren't trickling down enough to make ends meet. Then you have the elderly and disabled who also rely on housing assistance and may not be able to hold a job. Based on the cuts that have already been made by the new administration, recipients of housing aid in New York should brace for impact.
