It’s The Anniversary Of The Hottest Day In Buffalo’s History
While the calendar says there's just under a month left in the summer season, you could not tell that if you have been outside in Buffalo and Western New York over the last few days.
Cooler temperatures have moved into the region during the last week of August 2025, and temperatures aren't expected to warm back up for a few days. While this is abnormal for this time of year, it also has not been the typical Buffalo summer either.
The region has had several days of extremely hot and humid weather, so much so that many people thought that a nearly 80-year-old weather record would be broken. However, that's not the case, and the anniversary of the hottest day in Buffalo history is upon us once again, and that record still stands.
It's Been 77 Years Since Buffalo Reached Its Hottest Day Ever
Friday, August 27, 1948, was a particularly hot day in Western New York. So hot that the thermometer reached an official high temperature of 99 degrees ferhenight.
While we have come close to breaking this record a few times over the last 70-plus years, Buffalo has the distinction of being one of the few large American cities to have never hit 100 degrees. We can all but guarantee you that Buffalo will not get anywhere near that record this week, as colder temperatures and rain are in the forecast for the near future.
The next few days will see temperatures and sun increase, but far from the hot weather we've had this summer around Western New York and Southern Ontario.
