WNY Reacts to Whether or Not Ketchup Belongs on a Hot Dog

It's Memorial Day Weekend and that for many people, including myself, means the start of summer. Technically, summer does not begin until June 21st, but many think of this as the start of great weather sticking around.

We should always take a moment this weekend and remember the men and women who have served this country, especially the ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

There will be cookouts and family/friend gatherings from Saturday through Monday. While Saturday will be cooler than we want (65-70 degrees), rain will move out for good by late Saturday morning. Sunshine and 80 degrees will be the story for both Sunday and Monday.

Cheeseburgers, beer, pop (yes, we say pop) and ice cream will be popular foods and beverages of choice this weekend, but so will the American classic, hot dogs.

Hot dogs are about as American as you can get and while they are not nutritious for you, they are a must for Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend.

We will hear the common argument that families and friends at cookouts have been arguing for years..."does ketchup belong on a hot dog?"

We asked listeners on Facebook and Twitter, whether or not ketchup belongs on a hot dog and while many responded saying absolutely, there were quite a few people who said, absolutely not.

There were some comments that suggested that ketchup on hot dogs is for kids, while others said nothing belongs on a hot dog.

There are always people who say "why is that even something to ask?" and time and time again, so many people have strong opinions on whether or not ketchup belongs on a hot dog.

I love ketchup on my hot dog. Either ketchup and yellow mustard or just ketchup is what I go with. My feeling is while I love hot dogs, it's not exactly a food that will be confused as being "fancy," and ketchup is a perfect condiment for it.
