Former Canisius High School Star Signs Deal With NFL Team
This past weekend many college athletes had their dreams come true when they heard their name announced during the annual National Football League draft.
But the joy didn't stop after the last pick of the 7tth round of the NFL draft. After the draft concluded, many college athletes had a chance to sign with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.
So while he didn't hear his name called this weekend, former Canisius high school stand-out Blake Haubeil will have a chance to make an NFL roster this summer after he signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans.
Haubeil graduated from Canisius in 2017 and played his college ball at Ohio State University. For his career, Haubeil made 28 of 35 field-goal attempts in 50 games with a career-long of 55 yards.
He also never missed an extra point attempt in his career going 146 for 146.
Also, he picked up some awards during his time at Ohio State too. Haubeil was named the OSU Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2020 and in 2019 he was named Third-team All-Big Ten, OSU Scholar-Athlete, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
He will now challenge long-time pro Stephan Gostkowski for the kicking job during the Titans' training camp. Gostkowski signed with Tennessee last year after playing for New England from 2006 until 2019. Gostkowski was a 4th round pick by the Patriots in 2006.
Last season Gostkowski made 18 out of 26 field goals and 44 out of 46 extra points. He also made two fields in Tennesse's playoff loss to Baltimore.
If Haubeil does make the Titans' roster this season or any other NFL roster, he will be in good company. Check out some Buffalo area athletes that made it to the NFL.
