For the first time in 242 years, a woman is leader in the NY senate
Well, that didn't take long at all (read with sarcasm)! A woman is the leader of the New York State senate, for the first time in 242 years!
Yesterday (January 9), history was made! Andrea Stewart-Cousins became the first woman to earn the title of majority leader of the NY Senate. Stewart-Cousins is a Democrat from Yonkers. The dems now have 39 members in the senate, which Stewart-Cousins will lead, according to Spectrum News Buffalo.
Mike Gianaris, Deputy Majority Leader said:
“It is time for the proverbial three men in a room to say goodbye to how they think our government should be run. The winds of change are sweeping a fabulous scarf into the room, and things will never be the same.”
My thoughts: Its amazing that this happened, but I am disapointed that it took this long! Some people still have the antiquated mind-set that women cant lead, which is just plane old ignorant! Women have proven over and over to be very capable leaders! She is giving hope to our young ladies, the next generation, who now get to see another woman leading!!
