Facebook Is Going To Pay You To Not Go On
It's official. Facebook is partnering with a research company to pay you to NOT go on Facebook during election season. Only a certain amount of people will see an 'invite' when they open the app on their phone to get off of Facebook during political season, starting at the end of September AND get paid for it.
Both my wife and I got the 'invite' to be involved in the study. At first, we thought it was a scam and didn't even think twice about it so I opted out. Honestly, even if you told me I was going to get paid I don't think that I would have opted in to do it anyway.
My wife got the invite afterwards and she decided to do it. They asked a bunch of questions including asking 'how much would you like to get paid to get off Facebook for 6 weeks'? The survey noted that this will not necessarily be the amount that she is given per week. At the end of signing up, we found out that she has to stay off for 6 weeks and will get paid 25 bucks every week. The money goes directly into our bank account, but the minute she logs in, it is over. I mentioned, it might actually be harder than you think....sometimes clicking on the Facebook app on your phone is just natural because we do it so much.
To continue to amplify all that is good for democracy on social media, and mitigate against that which is not, we need more objective, dispassionate, empirically grounded research. That’s why today we are announcing a new research partnership to better understand the impact of Facebook and Instagram on key political attitudes and behaviors during the US 2020 elections", according to Facebook's blog page.
