Woman Dies In Erie County Holding Center

Sadly, a 35-year-old Niagara Falls woman died in the Erie County Holding Center. Her death happened one day after she was booked into the jail. Elizabeth Calaty was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for petit larceny. She was booked into the jail on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:45 am. Holding Center officials say that she was placed on detox observation, according to WGRZ. Calaty allegedly refused a medical visit at 11:45 pm. She was found unresponsive in her cell the next morning and pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office says there were no signs of trauma and did not find any contraband on her or in her cell.
