$34 Million Available To Help East Side Homeowners In Buffalo
Governor Kathy Hochul announced another round of millions of dollars are available to homeowners in Buffalo's East Side. Gov. Hochul made the announcement today, Saturday, July 30, 2022. Applications for the monies will be accepted by New York State soon.
New York State Investing $50 Million Into Improving Buffalo’s Eastside
A month and a half ago, back on Saturday, June 18, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $50 million of targeted investments into the East Side community. The funds are a part of the state's effort to address the inequities experienced by the community. Gov. Hochul, a native of Western New York, said,
East Buffalo and communities like it have for decades suffered from significant disinvestment, neglect, and the failure of government policy. We are not afraid to take on these systemic challenges, and together, with the City, the County, community members, and other partners – we’re going to do that. Today’s announcement is a down payment on the much larger amount of work that lies ahead.
East Side Homeowners In Buffalo To Have Access To $34 Million In Assistance
Starting on Tuesday, August 9, homeowners will be able to tap into the funds. There is the $20 million Buffalo East Homeowner Assistance Fund, the $10 million Buffalo East Home Improvement Program, and $4.5 million East Buffalo Down Payment Assistance Plus Program. Beginning Wednesday, August 3, residents can call 211 to get more info about applying for the assistance programs.
$20 Million Buffalo East Homeowner Assistance Fund Program
Monies from this fund will help homeowners who are behind on water, taxes, sewer charges and user fees. The Western New York Law Center will administer the funds.
$10 Million Buffalo East Home Improvement Program
The Buffalo East Home Improvement Program will offer assistance to homeowners with emergency home repairs to help fix code violations and other major repairs to systems. Five local nonprofits - PUSH Buffalo, Broadway-Fillmore, NeighborWorks Community Partners, Heart of the City and the Community Action Organization of Buffalo - will administer the fund.
$4.5 Million East Buffalo Down Payment Assistance Plus Program
This fund will help potential homeowners by providing down payment assistance for home purchases through three SONYMA lenders - Premium Mortgage, M&T Bank, and First Priority Mortgage.
