I have to admit that when Joe Biden was elected President back in November, I really started to have a little hope that he and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would work out a deal to reopen the border. That hope increased to outright joy when President Biden announced he was having a series of meetings with the Canadian PM.

However, that hope was dashed after I read a story by WKBW where they are reporting a reopening is not likely to be happening anytime soon.

Even though there has been some improvement in the coronavirus infection numbers in the United States, the pandemic is not under control by any means and that is a major concern of the Canadian government. No matter how disappointed I am, I totally understand it from their perspective. Especially considering that the United States recently had its 500,000th COVID-19 death, everyone has to do their part to stop the spread.

Non-essential travel continues to be restricted, essential travel like medical, commercial business and trade are still allowed under certain circumstances. Canada also just released new travel and quarantine rules for people who are fortunate enough to travel into Canada. You can read more about them here on Canada's Travel and COVID-19 Website.

So I will wait patiently until the day comes where I can once again go runnin’ thru the 6 with my woes.

The border is officially closed until March 21st. This latest extension of the closure marks one full year that the world's longest guarded border has been closed.
