I'm not finished with my Invisalign program with Owl Orthodontics yet, but there is such a huge change from even the first picture until now.

I even spoke to the rapper Asiahn who we had at our 716 Spotlight event in the spring, and she has them too and loves them. In fact, I know of many artists who use them, and they all have great teeth now.

I admit, I was skeptical about Invisalign before I started — I really wasn't sure they would work. I had never had braces before, so I didn't know what to expect. Dr. Walla at Owl Orthodontics explained everything to me, so I wanted to share some of Owl Orthodontics' FAQ's with you, in case they might help you, too:

1. What do orthodontists do?

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose and treat problems with the position, alignment or spacing of teeth and related irregularities in the face and the jaw. They use a number of special treatments, including braces and other oral appliances, to correct these problems.

2. Why should I (or my loved ones) get orthodontic treatment?

There are two good reasons: aesthetics and function. Having an attractive smile not only changes the way people see you — it enhances your own self-image as well. Orthodontic treatment also allows your teeth to function better and makes it easier to keep them clean, which can improve your overall health.

3. When should orthodontic treatment be started?

You’re never too old to begin orthodontic treatment, but if you start at an earlier age, your problems may be easier to treat. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child who may need orthodontic treatment should come in for a first visit around age 7.

4. What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the clear way to straighten teeth without braces, using aligners. Aligners are removable and virtually invisible, which means you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing and you can still eat and drink what you want. You can brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth. Also, there are no wires, metal or brackets to cause mouth abrasions.

5. Is it a good alternative to braces?

It depends on the case, however Invisalign is good option if you are a candidate. Many of our patients – adults and teens – had never considered traditional braces but are now happily and comfortably improving their smiles with Invisalign.

6. Does Invisalign hurt?

As with traditional braces, there may be a dull, achy sensation that occurs at the beginning stages of treatment.

7. How often must I wear my aligners?

Aligners should be worn all day and all night, except when eating, brushing and flossing.

8. Does the doctor have any special training to use Invisalign?

Yes, training is required for doctors who want to use the Invisalign System in their practices. The doctor has attended an Invisalign training program to become certified and proficient in the various requirements for treating patients.

9. How long will treatment take?

It’s different for each person, but generally the active stage of treatment (that is, wearing braces or other appliances) may take from 6-30 months. After that, a retainer is worn for at least several months more.

10. Is orthodontic care very expensive?

Orthodontic care is a long-term investment in your health and well-being. Yet its cost hasn’t increased as fast as many other consumer prices, and many financing options are available that make orthodontic care affordable. Weighed against the true cost of living with problem teeth, however, orthodontic treatment can be a wise investment indeed.
