It has been said over and over again, that many people here in Western New York are still recovering from the pandemic. I have spoken with many parents that are still out of work and unemployment benefits are set to end soon. The nice thing about Buffalo is that there are many programs to assist people that may be in the need of a little helping hand.

According to WIVB, the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance recently announced that all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will get the most food benefits allowed for the month of June. New York has announced that there will be $200 Million in additional SNAP benefits available for everyone that is eligible for the month of June.

How Will This Work?

If you're in a household that already receives SNAP benefits, you will start getting emergency assistance in June, which some people may have already started receiving. These benefits will continue through the end of the month. This is great for people in this program because SNAP would not normally give the maximum allowable benefit per month. That amount is $234.00 for individuals and $782.00 for a family of four.

With the rising cost of food in the grocery stores right now, this should relieve some of the burdens when it comes to buying food, to feed your family. I think it's a great thing for families to receive additional help, especially in times like these when there are people that are still recovering and out of work.
