Community Supports Being Extended After Mass Shooting In Buffalo

On May 14, 2022, 10 people who were just minding their business at a local grocery store were killed by a domestic terrorist who allegedly was on a racist fueled rampage. Since that shooting took away 10 lives and left another 3 people injured with gunshot wounds, the Buffalo neighborhood where the shooting occurred has been trying to pick up the pieces and being to heal.

In the aftermath of this terrible tragedy, many community organizations and neighborhood stakeholders have banded together to make sure that those families and individuals who have been impacted are receiving the love and support they need to continue to function after our community is rocked.

From food and essentials being made available to the neighborhood for free to free and anonymous mental health counseling being made available, Buffalo really pulled together to make sure those who need help get it.

Many of those supports were scheduled to end on Friday, May 27, 2022, but officials have since pledged to ensure that support is available for as long as the community needs it.

Mental Health Counseling, Support, and Conversations

• These services will be continued until at least Friday, June 3, 2022, and can be accessed at the Johnnie B. Wiley Center located at 1100 Jefferson Avenue, at the corner of Dodge Street, and at the Buffalo Urban League Resource Center located at 1359 Jefferson Avenue, at the corner of Glenwood Avenue.
• All available services are 100% free and confidential.

Free Food Distribution

• Free food is will be available every Friday, between the hours of 3p and 7p at the Johnnie B. Wiley Center, located at 1100 Jefferson Avenue, at the corner of Dodge Street, until at least Monday, July 8, 2022.
• Free food will also be available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between the hours of 2p and 7p at the Resource Council of WNY, located at 347 East Ferry Street, between Dupont Street and Roehrer Avenue, and will be available until at least Monday, July 8, 2022.

Community Support Services

• Trauma-informed services and other mental health counseling services are being continued until further notice and will be available at the Resource Council of WNY, located at 347 East Ferry Street, between Dupont Street and Roehrer Avenue.
• Some financial services will be available as well, like banking, bill paying services, and other items.
• Services will be available Monday thru Friday from 9a until 1:30p and 6:30p until 9p, Saturday from 2p until 6p, Sunday 9a until 4p
