If you are in a crunch for money and want to have a one-of-a-kind chicken wing hat, you may want to try this DIY project to make your own!

My friend, Rob Banks, was planning to enter his 1-year-old into a chicken wing costume contest over the weekend, but he became stumped when he realized that Anchor Bar didn’t have a child size wing hat.

My artistic talents were challenged as he asked me to make one for his son.

Obviously, the Anchor Bar wing hats are better quality, but if you are in a pinch or need a specific size adjustment, I figured out a way to make your own chicken wing hat.

You can follow the steps in the TikTok below.

With dry time, it took about a day and a half to finish the hat, but if I had more time, I think I would’ve taken my artist friend’s suggestion to add more lumps.

I may attempt to redo it with Veronica's suggestions from VibeRant Art.

If you decide to make your own chicken wing hat, you have to make sure you have the circumference measured correctly, so whoever you are making the hat for, you need to know how big around the head is in order to have correct sizing.

Then, find a bowl that matches that circumference, or alternatively you could blow a balloon to match that measurement, and finish your mold shape in order to paper mache.

Whatever you do, make sure you rip your paper pieces. Do not cut them. You must tear the pieces, dip it in the paper mache paste (or the 2/3 glue, 1/3 water mix) and then stick onto the mold.

If you use a bowl, you have to wrap the mold in saran wrap before beginning the paper mache process, or you could forever damage that bowl. If you use a balloon in place of the bowl, you don’t need the saran wrap, because you can simply pop the balloon to remove the mold from the glue mixture.

Think you’ll try to make one?? It’d be pretty cool to see some kids with wing hats at the Buffalo Bills games this season. If you do attempt it, post a picture on Facebook or Instagram and tag us @1065wyrk.
