$72 Million Housing Development Coming To Western New York
A massive and ambitious housing development project that started more than six years ago is back on, thanks to a new group of partners who are looking to start in the next year or so.
BestSelf Behavioral Health is teaming up with Arc Building Partners to construct several buildings that will house 175 apartments. Those apartments will have affordable rents designed to help low-to-moderate-income Buffalonians have safe and new housing in Buffalo's Central Park Neighborhood.
The Chalmers Apartments at Highland Park will sit on approximately 5 acres of land at the corner of Chalmers Ave and Holden Street in Buffalo, and when completed, will have two buildings in an L-shape, four two-story townhouse buildings, parking lots, and a playground.
The Project... includes the construction of two new modern three-story multi-family apartment buildings on the Chalmers side of the Site and four new two-story early 20th century single family townhomes on the Central Park Avenue side of the Site. The townhomes are placed on the Central Park side of the property to allow a smooth transition between the two property types framing the Site. The Applicant has designed the Project to be cohesive with the surrounding single-family homes.

The partnership expects the entire project to cost around $72 million when it's all said and done.
This new construction will be a welcome addition to this section of Buffalo's eastside, which has long been ignored. Buffalo has had an affordable housing problem for several years, so this project should also help provide some additional relief for people who are having trouble finding an affordable place to live.
