Buffalo Native Earns Second Grey Cup Championship In CFL
Sports fans in Buffalo and Western New York have been flying high lately. With the great play of the Buffalo Bills and the improving play of the Buffalo Sabres over the last few weeks, it's great to be into sports in the 716.
There is yet another reason for sports fans in Buffalo to cheer and be in a good mood, especially if they follow professional football players who live in and are from the Buffalo region.
Chad Kelly Earns Second CFL Grey Cup In Three Years
Chad Kelly, the nephew of Bills Legend and NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly, is a professional football player who plays quarterback like his Uncle. The younger Kelly, who was a star quarterback for St. Joes in Kenmore, New York, and Clemson and Ole Miss in college, has been making a name for himself in the Canadian Football League.
Chad, who played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts, has just earned his second CFL championship title with the Toronto Argonauts.
Kelly signed with the Argos in 2022 and helped the team to earn an 11-7 record and a victory in the 109th Grey Cup. The Argo's returned to the Grey Cup game again on Sunday, November 17, 2024, beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41-24 and winning the 111th Grey Cup, their 19th CFL title.
Kelly, suspended from the league in the first part of the season and injured during the CFL Playoffs, could not play in this year's Grey Cup, but as a team member, he earned his second championship for Toronto.
Since Toronto is just down the road, maybe we can convince Chad to bring the Grey Cup to Buffalo for a quick road trip.
