It seems like something strange has been happening with policing in Ontario's largest metropolitan area.

It wasn't long ago when a Toronto cop suggested leaving your car keys in the open so home invaders don't attack you. Now, it seems that another Toronto police officer is in even more trouble after he was caught trying to flee North America after being convicted of some serious crimes.

According to the Toronto Sun, 48-year-old Boris Borissov, a Toronto Police Constable, was caught at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport in Montreal, Quebec, trying to flee the country.

In 2023, Borissov pleaded guilty to several serious crimes that could land him some serious jail time. Toronto City News breaks down quite extensively what Borissov did that got him in legal trouble.

In April 2022, Borissov was arrested and charged with ten separate crimes, including theft and using a credit card that was recovered during a missing person investigation. Then, in June 2022, Borissov was arrested again and charged with stealing a dead person's watch. If that wasn't enough, Borissov was arrested a third time in June 2023 for not following the terms of his bail.

Borissov, who was a 16-year police veteran, was due to be sentenced on all of his crimes on September 10, 2024, before he took off for Montreal to escape his punishment allegedly.

Borissov's attempts to leave the country have resulted in yet another charge. According to the Toronto Police Service, he's been charged with an additional count of Failure to Comply with Recognizance.

Borissov, who still awaits sentencing, remains employed by the Toronto Police Service and has been suspended with pay since 2023, when he was initially arrested.
