The nominations for the 2017 BET Awards were announced on Monday (May 15) and fans were pleasantly surprised to see Cardi B get mentioned among the nominees.

The reality TV star-turned-rapper received two nominations for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Best New Artist. This is a major accomplishment for the 24-year-old, who only a year ago was famous for her candid and hilarious one-person conversations on her Instagram page.

"I don't even care if I win these awards .The fact that I got nominated make me feel like a super winner .Thank you guys!" she tweeted. "Wow I blessed my mom last night and look at the blessing I got today ..Two BET NOMINATIONS .God really be watching."

Cardi B has some stiff competition in the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist field. Rappers Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma, Missy Elliott and Young M.A are up for nods. All of the them had a stellar year in their own right.

On Twitter, fans are cheering for the underdog Cardi B to steal the award from her fellow big-name nominees. Other people are wondering why Cardi is even nominated in the category. Some feel that she's not good enough as a rapper to be mentioned alongside such established MCs like Missy or Nicki.

"Cardi B is a serious artist? She is a better stripper on the reality show than a rapper," wrote one Twitter user. However, most are excited for Cardi B's nominations. "Cardi B nominated for a BET award really makes me wanna cry I'm so happy for her like she really worked her way up," tweeted one person.

As for Cardi B, she's taking the hate in stride. "For those who asking why? CAUSE A BITCH IS TALENTED THATS WHY!!!!Lick video will be out this week too," she tweeted.
