A New Address, A Bigger Mission: Dress for Success Buffalo Opens Downtown
I love seeing women win, but I especially love seeing the places created to help women win grow too.
Today, Dress for Success Buffalo celebrates the grand reopening of its Career Center at 285 Ellicott Street in downtown Buffalo, literally right down the street from the station.
And this isn't just a new address. This is growth. This new location marks another chapter for Dress for Success Buffalo as the organization continues expanding its footprint and its ability to serve women throughout our community. For an organization to continue needing more space because the work continues to grow? That's the kind of problem we want to see in Buffalo.
At the center of that work is Executive Director Michelle Barron, who has been doing the work of connecting, developing and creating opportunities for women long before today’s ribbon gets cut.
Michelle is also the founder of Women In the Spotlight GoinGlobal, a networking and empowerment community she created in 2010 to connect women across the country. Her background also includes years of economic and community development work supporting businesses and helping strengthen neighborhoods.

So when we talk about Dress for Success Buffalo growing, we're also talking about leadership that understands that empowering women takes more than telling us we can do it. We need access. We need resources. We need relationships. And sometimes, we need somebody to help us get ready for the room.
That's where Dress for Success comes in. The organization's work goes far beyond the suit.
Dress for Success describes its global purpose as empowering women to achieve economic mobility through a network of support, workplace attire and development tools for success. Here in Buffalo, its Suiting program helps women prepare for interviews with professional attire, guidance and support. The Career Center tackles some of the obstacles women experience during the employment process while creating opportunities to build confidence, network and have real conversations about the workplace.

That's what I love about this work. Because being a Go Getta doesn't mean you have to know everything or do everything by yourself.
Sometimes going after what you want means asking for help. Sometimes it means getting your résumé together. Sometimes it means putting on that suit, looking in the mirror and remembering exactly who you are before walking into an interview. And sometimes it means finding a community that reminds you to keep going when the process gets frustrating.
Getting dressed may get you ready for the interview, but getting equipped prepares you for the career. And now women in Buffalo have another space dedicated to helping them do exactly that. For me, seeing this Career Center open downtown feels even more special because it's happening right in my neighborhood. I'll be leaving the station knowing that just down the street, women are walking through another set of doors preparing to walk through even bigger ones.

Congratulations to Michelle Barron and the entire Dress for Success Buffalo team on the grand reopening and continued growth. New location. Bigger possibilities. Same mission of helping women move forward. And you know I'm always here for that.
